An independent montessori preschool in the Hudson Valley serving families with kids between the ages 2-6.
Where the learning continues outside the walls.
We’ve used Montessori principles to design a school which meets the needs of children at every developmental stage, while simultaneously dedicating a large part of the day to exploring nature and the outdoors.
“Located in the village of Cold Spring, our schools’ syllabus and teaching materials draw inspiration from the river, creeks and marshes in the Hudson Highlands.” — Karen Kapoor, Director – The Foundry Montessori School

Learning by doing.
In our mission to prepare students to make a positive impact on their community, we follow the Montessori pedagogy that focuses on the whole child approach. Collaboration and peer mentoring thrive in our mixed-age classrooms. Within a structured environment, children choose activities that interest them while gaining skills in all subject areas.
Students learn abstract concepts through the use of beautiful, hands-on Montessori materials, which inspire exploration and mastery. Additionally, learning happens beyond our classroom walls in the natural environment of the village of Cold Spring. By actively exploring the neighborhood (nature walks, museums) they learn from the world that surrounds them.
The Montessori Way
Acknowledging the individuality of each child results in better learning outcomes, so student choice, also known as self-directed learning, is an integral part of the Montessori method.
Nature in the Classroom
Students are free to choose the activity they want to work on from a range of carefully prepared, developmentally appropriate materials, both in the classroom or outdoors.
Mixed–age Learning
Our programs feature mixed age classrooms , so every lesson offers the appropriate level of collaboration, social skills development and engagement for your little ones.
Learning from the world around us.
At The Foundry Montessori school the world is literally our classroom.
“Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet.”
